Teaching Pastor
Accountable To: Senior Pastor
Works With: Pastoral Staff, Support Staff
Purpose: The Teaching Pastor will serve as an important team member of the GVBC pastoral staff, helping to implement the vision and purposes of GVBC. This pastor will have a deep desire to study the Word of God, be a sound expositor of the Bible, and gifted at preaching and teaching that connects well with both older and younger generations. This pastor will also help to oversee other GVBC core ministries and nurture/equip the leaders of these ministries.
General Responsibilities:

Implement and advance our mission statement, “helping people discover Jesus and become His fully devoted followers,” and our vision of passionately pursuing Jesus and growing spiritually healthy from the inside out

Equip the saints for the work of the ministry for the building up of the Body of Christ for spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:11-16)

Be dedicated to ministering to and shepherding people with great compassion that leads them to a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ

In cooperation with the Senior Pastor set quarterly SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-oriented) which shall be evaluated by the Senior Pastor

Maintain regular accountability and supervision with the Senior Pastor, carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by him
Specific Responsibilities:

Preach the Word of God for Sunday morning services up to 24 Sundays per year

Work closely with the senior pastor to develop the preaching calendar and select what book and/or series our church would go through

Teach for other ministries (all-church Bible study, men’s ministry, young adult ministry, church conferences, etc.) as needed

Oversee, equip, and train GVBC lay leaders to teach the Word of God
-
Maintain regular accountability and supervision with the Senior Pastor, carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by him

Along with the other pastors:
-
Continually be discipling 2-3 other GVBC members that they might become reproducing disciple-makers
-
Provide short-term counseling, prayer, pre-marital counseling, conflict resolution, and biblical direction to those in need of shepherding within the congregation
-
Provide general pastoral care through visiting congregants who may be sick or in the hospital
-
Administer the ordinances of communion and baptism

Officiate weddings and funerals
-
Participate in and contribute to staff meetings, core ministry council meetings, and other leadership gatherings

Help to facilitate the quarterly new membership class as part of GVBC’s assimilation program
-
Initiate conversations with members of the congregation before and after services every Sunday.

Job Skills and Requirements
-
M.Div. from an accredited seminary
-
Minimum of five years of previous experience in a ministry leadership capacity
-
Minimum of five years of previous preaching experience
-
Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and time management skills
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Hours & Pay:
$60,000-80,000/year salary + full benefits package (vacation, medical, retirement, etc.)
