Worship Director

Accountable To: Senior Pastor 

Works With: Pastoral Staff, Support Staff, worship leaders, and other volunteers in the worship ministry
 
Purpose:  Serve as an important team member of the GVBC pastoral staff, helping to implement the vision and purposes of GVBC. Provide leadership in the worship ministry.
 
General Responsibilities:

  1. Implement and advance our mission statement, “helping people discover Jesus and become His fully devoted followers,” and our vision of passionately pursuing Jesus and growing spiritually healthy from the inside out.

  2. Equip the saints for the work of the ministry for the building up of the Body of Christ for spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:11-16).

  3. Oversee the Worship Ministry by coordinating the worship and audio/visual logistics for Sunday morning worship services and other GVBC programs throughout the year.

  4. In cooperation with the Senior Pastor, set quarterly SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-oriented) which shall be evaluated by the Senior Pastor.

  5. Maintain regular accountability and supervision with the Senior Pastor, carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by him.
     

Specific Responsibilities:

The primary role of the Worship Director is to lead the people of GVBC to worship Jesus Christ with all of our hearts, that we might approach God with reverence and be changed by him every single time we gather together as the Body of Christ. We want to be the light of the world, the city on a hill that brightly shines the light of Jesus in our surrounding community. Towards this end, the Worship Director will lead and shepherd worship teams with a sensitivity to GVBC culture, overseeing all aspects of planning and execution, communicating effectively with worship team volunteers and other volunteers that support and align with the worship ministry, such as the audio/visual (AV) and creative media teams. This includes the following responsibilities: 
 

  1. Create a worship culture that is formed out of GVBC’s values and philosophy of ministry through leading worship for most Sunday worship services and raising up leaders from all life stages to do the same.  

  2. Equip and disciple worship leaders of all ages through regular training sessions, conferences, and mentoring. Set clear direction and expectations for leaders. 

  3. Provide strong spiritual and musical direction/leadership for worship teams, including both vocalists and instrumentalists. 

  4. Organize Sunday worship team rehearsals, while coordinating mid-week preparations with pastoral staff, AV teams, and setup crew.

  5. Recruit, audition, and disciple new worship team vocalists and instrumentalists while enlisting veteran worship team members to assist.

  6. Along with the Senior Pastor, set the spiritual tenor of the church through worship. Form the musical direction by selecting and teaching new worship songs in coordination with the vision and direction of GVBC.  

  7. Oversee and regularly communicate with all Sunday team leaders, including AV, livestream, media, ushers, etc., linking their efforts with that of the worship ministry to create a unified approach to worship ministry.

  8. Develop and oversee worship/musical events, which may involve recruitment and coordination with vocalists and instrumentalists of all ages.

  9. Set and manage worship ministry budget expenses with regular reviews and annual preparation of the worship budget and any related accounts.

Other Pastoral Staff Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and contribute to staff meetings, core ministry council meetings, and other leadership gatherings.

  • Help to facilitate the quarterly new membership class as part of GVBC’s assimilation program.

  • Initiate conversations with members of the congregation before and after services every Sunday.


Job Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of four years of previous experience as a volunteer and/or paid worship leader

  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and time management skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, adept with music technology and software
     

Hours & Pay:

Full-time (non-exempt)

$26-29/hour + full benefits package (vacation, medical, retirement, etc.)
